Every floor I install starts the same way, with the concrete mechanically opened up. What changes after that is the finish, the traffic it has to take, and what the space is for.

This is the floor the whole business was built on, and the one I teach. No two are the same, because the design is poured, not printed.

The design coat is poured at 100 square feet per 3 gallons. That is a heavy build on purpose. It is what gives the metallic its depth instead of a thin painted look.

Self leveling flooring

When the slab is the problem.

Self leveling concrete, poured to bring a floor back to flat. Plenty of jobs need this before a coating system is even worth discussing, and on some jobs it is the finished floor.

Polished concrete

The floor you already own.

Multi grit diamonds mechanically grind and naturally polish the concrete. No coating goes on top of it. The shine is the slab itself, refined, then locked in with a densifier so it stops dusting and holds up to traffic.

What is the difference between the flake system and the metallic?
The flake floor is a 3 coat hybrid epoxy and polyaspartic system: a moisture vapor barrier epoxy, a pigmented polyaspartic with vinyl flake broadcast to full refusal, then a clear polyaspartic once the flake has been scraped and sanded. The metallic is a 4 coat resin system: a moisture vapor barrier, a self leveling resin primer, a thick multi color resin design poured at 100 square feet per 3 gallons, and a T200 sealer or a matted urethane. Flake is the tougher, more uniform commercial look. Metallic is the one that stops people in the doorway.
Why does the concrete have to be diamond ground first?
Because that is what the coating holds onto. Grinding strips surface contaminants and weak material, opens the pores and cuts a proper surface profile, which is what creates the mechanical bond between the system and the slab. Proper preparation is one of the most important steps in getting long term adhesion, and it is the step people skip when a floor peels a year later.
What is the moisture vapor barrier actually doing?
Concrete pushes moisture vapor up out of itself, and that is behind a large share of coating failures. The first coat on both the flake and the metallic system is a commercial grade hybrid moisture vapor barrier epoxy. It bonds hard to the substrate, gives the rest of the system a durable foundation, and protects the coats above it from moisture coming out of the slab.
Why is the flake floor scraped and sanded before the last coat?
Flake is broadcast to full refusal, which means the coating is completely covered and there is loose material sitting on top once it cures. Scraping and sanding takes that off and brings the surface to a consistent profile, so the clear polyaspartic goes down flat and even instead of following every chip.
Do you sell the products, or only install?
Both. Concrete coating products are available, and full resin epoxy training with certification runs online and as a 100% hands on class in Miami. Plenty of people start with a floor and come back for the class.
